Inherited Beliefs

Growing up in my childhood home, my parents encouraged my brother and me to discover religion and spirituality in whichever ways felt best.

My father would go to Catholic church on Sundays and we were always welcome - though never pressured - to join him. Here, he would find solace in the traditional ritual and identity within the welcoming community.

My mother rebelled against any kind of organised religion, having grown up in an incredibly strict and conservative Afrikaans environment in South Africa. As a teenager, she vowed - were she to have children one day - to raise them without religion forced down their throats.

So, in our house, it was commonplace to go to a Christmas day church service and to pull a tarot card for some life guidance.

This never seemed at odds to me. Learning from my parents, I embraced both religion and spirituality. And I grew tremendously in both alike.

My mother chooses a witchy, 'woowoo' path of energy and intuition for herself. As a result, I have learnt some mighty spells from my Mama bear.

This one is particularly special and incredibly powerful: Cinnamon spell to attract money to you.

Cinnamon Spell: Step by Step

Do this spell when your bank balance is a little low. Or when you’re saving for a fabulous adventure or for a future investment. It’s simple, smells delicious and you absolutely have everything you'll need in your home right now.

You will need:

• Saucepan + stove

• Wooden spoon

• Ground cinnamon

Instructions:

1. Heat up your saucepan on low heat on the stovetop

2. Take several deep breaths to still your mind and relax your shoulders

3. Sprinkle some cinnamon in the hot pan

4. Stir it around for a few minutes - I like to make a figure 8 with my spoon in the pan, to encourage an infinite money flow

5. As the cinnamon smell permeates your space, think rich thoughts: imagine money flowing in and out of your life; visualise yourself with more than enough money for whatever you want to do with it, plus extra to share with those lucky souls around you

6. Release the spell and trust the universe/spirit/god/goddess/your favourite presence is already scheming to bring you what you need

I tend to keep this spell as a secret weapon in my back pocket. What I mean is, I don’t use this every week. Whenever I call on it though, amazingly, money finds me. Whether I get an unexpected tax refund, or I’m gifted cash for my birthday, or I find € 20 on the train… The universe always hears me.

In the Magical Flow

Money is a relationship, after all. Just like the relationship you have with yourself and others, with the food you eat, with the way you face your day. It flows. It changes. It is there to support you.

Gratefully, practising witchcraft and casting spells are no longer acts we are burned at the stake for.

A spell opens you up to some kind of magic. It works if you trust it to. Seriously. Also, it’s so much fun. Wear something floaty and feel the magical vibes swirl around you.
